The goal of writing

I think the goal of most writers is to get published, but I find that the more I write, the less I focus on being published and the more I focus on improving my story.


A college professor once told us something to the effect that “success is simply the end result of following a good process”. That is, by following a good process, you don’t need to worry about the outcome because it will be the natural end result.


Applied to writing, if you follow a good writing process, you will have a greater chance of success whether it’s self-publishing or working through an agent.
